Hydraulic, Electrical & Mechanical Assembly Engineer – Workshop Lead
This is a senior, hands-on role for an experienced plant, agricultural or heavy engineering professional who wants to step into leadership while staying close to the engineering. As Workshop & Production Lead Engineer at Autoguide Equipment, you will take ownership of the workshop and assembly function - leading people, setting standards, and ensuring bespoke and small-batch equipment is built, tested and signed off to the highest level of quality. You will be a technical authority on the shop floor, mentoring the assembly team and shaping how Autoguide products are built. Purpose of the Role: To lead Autoguide Equipment’s workshop and production assembly operations, combining hands-on hydraulic, electrical and mechanical expertise with responsibility for coordination, mentoring, quality control and continuous improvement. Main Duties: Workshop & Production Leadership • Act as Workshop and Assembly Lead, coordinating jobs, priorities, issues and process improvements • Lead, train and mentor Assembly Engineers, developing skills, confidence and consistency • Set and maintain high standards for build quality, safety and workmanship • Be the technical escalation point for complex builds, diagnostics and fault-finding • Encourage a culture of ownership, accountability, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement Assembly & Engineering Responsibilities • Assemble bespoke and small-batch equipment incorporating hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems • Install and integrate hydraulic systems including pumps, valves, actuators, hose routing and fittings • Carry out electrical wiring, cable routing, termination and testing of systems and control panels • Assemble mechanical structures, frameworks, drive systems and gear mechanisms • Work confidently with 12/24v systems (knowledge of 110v and 240v advantageous) • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, wiring schematics, hydraulic circuit diagrams and work instructions • Conduct functional, pressure and safety testing, identifying and rectifying faults where required • Oversee final inspection, testing and sign-off prior to despatch Quality, Process & Collaboration • Maintain accurate build records, test results and quality documentation • Support quality control by identifying recurring issues and driving improvements in build processes • Collaborate with design engineers to feedback assembly issues and improvement opportunities • Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives • Ensure company procedures, safety protocols and quality standards are followed at all times Operational & Site Support • Complete job sheets, repair schedules and production documentation to a high standard • Undertake occasional site visits for installation, commissioning or troubleshooting activities • Support Sales and Aftersales teams with technical input and customer-facing expertise Required Exprience: Essential Skills & Experience • Senior-level experience in hydraulic, electrical and mechanical assembly within a manufacturing or heavy engineering environment • Strong background in plant, agricultural, commercial or heavy machinery engineering • Competent hydraulic and electrical engineer with strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills • Experience working with 12/24v systems • Ability to read, interpret and reverse-engineer production plans, drawings and schematics • High attention to detail with a strong focus on quality and consistency • Confident using a wide range of hand, pneumatic and torque-controlled tools • Able to work independently while leading and supporting a small team • Strong communication and documentation skills • Natural leadership ability, with a genuine interest in teaching and mentoring others ________________________________________ Desirable Qualifications & Experience • NVQ Level 3, BTEC, City & Guilds or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering • Completed apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline • Knowledge of control systems, basic PLC wiring or automation principles • Forklift or overhead gantry crane experience • Experience in aerospace, defence, automotive or heavy machinery sectors • ALLMI Lorry Loader certification Personal Attributes: • A calm, confident presence on the shop floor • A forward thinker who looks beyond the immediate task to the bigger picture • Takes pride in workmanship and maintaining high standards • Self-starter with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset • Adaptable and positive when production plans or priorities change • Values knowledge sharing and continuous improvement • Committed to safety, quality and doing things properly Company Values: Accountability Knowledge Sharing Unique Maintaining High Standards
Mobile Service Engineer
Are you a hands-on engineer who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and being out in the field? Autoguide Equipment is looking for a Mobile Service Engineer to join our team, delivering expert servicing, maintenance, and repairs on our British-manufactured machinery. This is a dynamic, customer-facing role where every day brings a new challenge, from diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs to ensuring equipment performs at its very best. Purpose of the Role: To provide high-quality onsite and workshop-based service and support to customers of Autoguide Equipment, ensuring products are maintained, repaired and presented to the highest standard. Main Duties: - Carrying out repairs and service work both onsite and in the workshop on the company’s portfolio of British Manufactured products. - Dealing face to face with clients from the agricultural, construction, utilities, telecommunication and ground care industries - Working with pneumatic, hydraulics, electrics and mechanical aspects of products - Test and fault find when required showing attention to detail to ensure that nothing is missed which would otherwise cause the units to fail inspection and test - Assemble/clean components ready for dispatch completing PDI sheets - Complete Job sheets to a high standard from repair description to parts used - Make sure Service vehicle is clean and presentable at all times and stocked with fast moving parts Working With: Sales Manager to enable smooth running of the aftersales operation of the business.
